Canted County Vineyards - Lamesa, TX ~3,015' AMSL

Canted County Vineyards, located near Lamesa, TX, is one of the largest contiguous vineyards in the state of Texas at nearly 350 acres. It is our first vineyard, planted 2017-2020, and is the test bed for new trellising, design, and varieties. It is trellised primarily in high California Sprawl with ~30 acres in VSP. Varieties grown include Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Vermentino, Mourvèdre, Primitivo, Marsanne, Muscat Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Montepulciano, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Tannat, Grenache, and Semillon. The terroir is fairly even across the vineyard, with sandy loam from 0-36"; calcareous caliche pebbles at lower depths and hard caliche layer at 5'+. Grenache sits on a vein of shallow unconsolidated caliche. Slightly alkaline soils and water. Warmer low temperatures than most vineyards in the AVA in both spring and winter help protect from frost and cold.

Primrose Vineyards - Seagraves, TX ~3,400' AMSL

Nearly 300 acres of vines planted in 2023, Primrose is anchored with the classics of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Tempranillo, and Muscat Blanc. Newer for the AVA, Primrose also boasts large plantings of Picpoul Blanc, Marsanne, Rubired, and Ruby Cabernet. The terroir is loamy sand in the first 18", underlain by unusually deep and clayey sandy loam soils from 18-30" down with near-neutral soil and water pH. Very little caliche except around Sauvignon Blanc. The sandy topsoil underlain with the unusual clay content makes for a unique site in the AVA. It is trellised in a high California Sprawl (single high cordon wire) system.
